Surrendering

Before surrendering please try everything you can to help. Shelters are over capacity and euthanasia rates are high, rescues are struggling to find fosters and adopters, and funds are limited. Let's work together to keep dogs out of the shelter.

Tips to Help Re-Home Your Pet

Give yourself time to re-home your pet. It can often take weeks or even months to find a new home.

Increase your pet's adoptability. Make sure it's spayed/neutered, groomed, and up-to-date on its vaccinations.

Market your pet! Create an attention grabbing pet profile that you can put on multiple platforms.

Tell your friends, family, and co-workers. Ask them to spread the word! You never know who may be looking for a new companion.

Promote your pet online. Post your pet profile on as many rehoming sites as possible. Here are just a few to get you started:

Use caution when considering unknown individuals or families as your pet's new owners. Hold the initial meeting in a public place and ask questions to screen potential adopters. Share your expectations for your pet's new home and require a modest adoption fee to deter dishonest individuals. When you find a family that meets your pet's needs, ask them for identification and contact information to follow up on how your pet is doing in their new home.

Check with local rescue groups. Whether you have a dog, cat, or an exotic animal, there are many rescue groups who might be able to assist. We recommend reaching out to a breed specific rescue as they will have better resources and/or adopters to help your pet. You can find most of these groups online through a web search or on Facebook.

Never abandon your animal. If you cannot keep your pet as you are losing your home or financially not able to provide, please reach out to Lost Our Home Pet Foundation or the Arizona Humane Society Alternative Placement.
